Mary Anne wants to protect our neighborhoods. She loves this city of ours and wants to keep its character and its attractions. She wants our neighborhoods to remain vibrant, and she has worked closely with the many neighborhood associations in the city to learn more about their concerns.

Mary Anne wants to stop downtown creep. She is a strong advocate on the commission for adhering to the spirit and intent of the Downtown Master Plan which reduces building height from 18 stories to 10 and the density from 200 units an acre to 50. For this reason, she voted against intensifying development in the historic Burns Square area, against a density increase for the 1301 Main Street project, and against downtown creep on School Avenue.

Mary Anne especially wants to make absolutely sure that the voice of the people is heard in city hall. Too often, some commissioners have turned a deaf ear to the wants and needs of residents. She wants to continue to be an advocate on behalf of the people.

She has had some notable successes in our service. She voted to adopt the Downtown Master Plan, she led the passage of a city civil rights ordinance, she has helped with housing that people can afford, and she set up a Mayor’s Committee for Veterans and Military Families to honor our veterans and address their concerns. But more remains to be done and she is asking for your support again so that she can continue working for you.

Her extensive financial background and business experience have taught her to be cautious with public funds while at the same time employing a can-do philosophy to find reasonable compromises for city problems. She believes that together we can find common-sense solutions to the challenges ahead and can make a great city even greater.
