March 23, 2007 – Challenger Dick "Dr. No" Clapp refuses to debate Commissioner Mary Anne Servian. "I am prepared to stand on my record and discuss the issues facing our city, I am disappointed Dick won't let people know all of his views or defend his positions," Servian said. February 26, 2007 – The Sarasota Herald Tribune endorses Mary Anne and states "Servian has shown leadership  on such issues as affordable housing, anti-discrimination efforts, code enforcement deficiencies, downtown parking measures, environmental initiatives, funding for Newtown's economic revival, and neighborhood needs. February 23, 2007 – The Sarasota Herald Tribune profiles Mary Anne and states "...Servian has pulled off the feat of helping the downtown grow while casting votes that kept nearby neighborhoods happy." Mary Anne believes that her leadership is needed now more than ever to find a new city manager who will be an expert in both redevelopment and dealing with the neighborhoods. February 17, 2007 – Mary Anne responds to criticism of the Pineapple Square project downtown. Mary Anne summarizes her decision to support the project by stating "Let’s recap what you, the taxpayers get from this deal: A desperately needed 350 space parking garage, reduced height and mass of their building on State, Lemon, and Pineapple, single story buildings all along Lemon to preserve our downtown core, quality retail tenants to uplift our downtown, and over $9 Million in taxes plus an additional $1Million for the State Street lot and payment for any on street parking lost. The Association stated their support was based upon "Commissioner Servian's past positions on planned growth, common sense approach to local traffic solutions and her efforts to protect the natural environment." December 29, 2006 - Mary Anne says the $54 million Cincinnati Reds stadium deal depends on nearby private development. "Without that private funding, this deal doesn't go through. It's not a question. It has to happen," she told Herald-Tribune reporter, Mike Saewitz. To make the development part of the deal more practical, she hopes the City Commission will offer developers a chance to build on property at Beneva and Fruitville. "It's really a prime location to put a hotel, retail and some affordable housing. That site really could generate way more than the amount we need," she explained. December 29, 2006 - Mary Anne to run for re-election.
